With matches once again postponed due to the weather, Ferryhill Athletic club chairman and regular match reporter, Chris Orton, has provided a chairman’s update for fans:
Well, we’ve reached the half-way point of the season and the weather has already put paid to the first two matches of the new year. The snow over recent weeks left many grounds at our level frozen solid, with even the 4G pitch at Chester-le-Street failing to thaw out last Saturday.
Thankfully, things seem to be improving somewhat and it looks like this week’s game against Deerness Valley at Dean Bank will go ahead. We’d love to see as many fans as possible along to support the lads.
A couple of results have gone against us recently, but we’re hoping to get back to winning ways. The Northern League is only a couple of steps away, and the team is doing everything it can to get back there.
As ever, the club would like to thank all our supporters, sponsors and followers from far and wide. It’s these people who spur the team on and keep us going.
As you may know, the club is run by a very small group of volunteers who give up their time to ensure that Ferryhill has a senior football team playing on Saturdays.
We can always do with more help though, so if you are able to give up an hour or two of your time each week then you’ll be made very welcome and all help will be appreciated. Just get in touch with us via our social media outlets, or speak to a committee member if you see one at a game.
Lastly, we wouldn’t be where we are now without the support of Ferryhill Town Council and our local councillors who have helped us with lots of issues.
We want to do everything we can to make the town proud and put Ferryhill on the map for something good.
