Children from Escomb Primary School have been learning about music and singing as part of the iSingPOP project. The project was held by the school in conjunction with Wear Valley Christian Centre and was funded by the Bishop Auckland Town Council Youth Awards.
Pupils learned five songs with actions in time for a mobile recording studio to visit the school and record them singing; the result of which will be an Escomb Primary School iSingPOP album. On Thursday 13th February, children from Years 3, 4 and 5 also performed a Community Concert at the Wear Valley Christian Centre, which was attended by 130 people. Children from Escomb performed again at a family service at the church on Sunday 16th February, when 150 people attended.
The Mayor of Bishop Auckland, Cllr David Fleming attended the concert and said it was ‘absolutely fabulous’.
Head teacher Wendy Gill commented, “We were delighted to be involved in the iSingPOP project. From the very start the children were inspired and motivated to sing. The song lyrics underpinned Christian values and helped give the children positive messages about how to live their lives. “The collaboration between the church, school and community was extremely powerful and productive and this was brought home by the fabulous concert on the Thursday afternoon. It was a wonderful way to celebrate!”
A Year 6 pupil said, “It was really fun. I really liked the songs and the actions, and the words made me really think.”
