Digital charity recruits Ferryhill-based volunteers

AbilityNet is a UK charity which helps individuals with any disability, of any age, to use all kinds of digital technology.

The charity has recently recruited some volunteers in Ferryhill, who wanted the community to know more about the services they provide.

“We came across them when looking for more information from BT about the switch to digital voice for my mum,” said volunteer, Carole Hubery. “We realised that there are going to be many people like my mum who only have a landline and will need help with the switchover. As volunteers we use our IT skills to help older and disabled people by providing one-to-one impartial advice and support on technology.

“Anyone needing help or advice can ring 0800 048 7642 or email enquiries[@]abilitynet[.]org[.]uk and their details will be taken prior to being allocated to a volunteer in their area. We enjoy volunteering because not only are we helping people cope with a changing world but as we are now retired it helps us to keep our own skills up to date along with learning new ones.”
