Ferryhill Athletic had seven players away on holiday for their friendly match with Sunderland RCA Reserves but still ran out comfortable 6-2 winners, reports Fraser Reynolds.
Leading 2-0 at half time with goals from Morland and Backhouse, they had to withstand a bit of pressure from the Sunderland side in the second period, but with a second from Morland and further goals from Devine, Olley and Linhart the result was never in doubt. It was a good opportunity for one or two of the fringe players to shine.
Under 18s goalkeeper George Rose got a run out in the second half and although he didn’t have a lot to do, he was very assured and looked more than competent.
This coming Saturday, 5 August, sees the Latics back at Dean Bank Recreation ground for their final pre-season friendly against Darlington United. Kick off is at 2pm and a good crowd is expected.
