A peaceful new sanctuary has been established at Chilton Cemetery, following the installation of a dedicated seating shelter designed to offer visitors a tranquil space for quiet contemplation and reflection.
The project is the direct result of a call for ideas by Chilton Town Council, which invited residents to suggest improvements to mark the cemetery’s centenary year. Local families expressed a strong desire for a sheltered area within the grounds where they could sit comfortably, find solace, and remember their loved ones.
The space will be enhanced by the addition of a traditional birdbath and vibrant planters. These elements are being introduced to encourage local wildlife and create a pleasant, comforting environment for visitors.
This project is part of a broader, ongoing investment into preserving and improving the cemetery grounds during its 100th anniversary. The installation follows recently completed structural works to repair the boundary walls and fencing, as well as the demolition of a disused building on the site. Work is also underway to upgrade the commemorative plagues within the memorial garden, ensuring that the personal tributes are preserved.
Chilton Town Council extends its sincere thanks to all residents who contributed their ideas during the centenary consultation, helping to shape a lasting and peaceful improvement for the entire community.
