Ferryhill’s favourite social club, DIDO (Days In Days Out) held a celebratory dinner dance on Monday 6th November at the Masonic Hall in Ferryhill. The party was just one event in a jam-packed itinerary for the group, which has been running for over eleven years.
The first meeting was held in April 2006 after a few local ladies decided to set up a social group for over 55s at Dean Bank Institute. To their astonishment, over 100 people turned up and the group has being going strong ever since, holding fortnightly meetings on a Monday afternoon. There are currently 112 members and a waiting list of 65!
As well as holding ‘Days In’ with tea, coffee and entertainment, members also enjoy ‘Days Out’ and have enjoyed trips to theatres, including to see the Kynren show at Bishop Auckland, to show gardens and visits to Keswick, Keighley and Skipton.
The popular club’s reputation is spreading, with previous members starting another club in Spennymoor and a recent visit by a lady from Barton who is looking to set up a similar club.
A spokesperson for the group said: “We would like to thank Enid Ridley for making the Christmas dessert and give a special mention to founding member, Jean Hedley (90) who never missed a DIDO until ill health.”
