Croquet club miss out on title

In the re-arranged home fixture against Tyneside Hunters, Auckland-Chilton Croquet won 12-6 reports Richard Peck.

The Club’s strongest player was Jane P who won all her three singles. There was a big improvement in the doubles play, winning 3 with 1 drawn out of the 6 played. This was our last match, having won 4 out of 5. A big thank you to all those players who have represented the club throughout the season in our 25th year.

In the Croquet North Turner Goblet Tournament held at Chester-le-Street on Saturday, William just missed out on adding the trophy to his win in the CN Championship when he reached the semi-final. Phil Errington (whom William beat in the Championship final) beat Peter Tymms in the final.

Meanwhile, the final league fixture of the season saw Bamburgh beat Tyneside 13.5 – 4.5 to draw level with ACC at the top of the table on 8 points. Unfortunately for ACC, Bamburgh’s points difference was 55 against ACC’s 52, making Bamburgh the 2023 Croquet North League Champions.

Sadly, the hoped for fairy tale ending was not to be, albeit it was a big improvement on last season.
