Although the first game of the season isn’t until 16th April, Shildon Railway Cricket Club is busily preparing for the season ahead.
After Easter, senior and junior practices will commence, with the club particularly keen to see new players, especially for the newly formed Under 11’s side.
The club will also run Under 15’s and Under 18’s sides at junior level and anyone interested can keep up with developments on the club’s Facebook page.
Players of all abilities are welcome along to the weekly practices which will start in April.
The club was delighted with the news that another sponsor, Ashby and Atkinson Dental Practice, is to take up an advertising board, which will be displayed on the boundary fence at the ground.
“We’re thrilled that the business community in the town is so supportive and recognises the importance of sport in our locality, especially at junior level. There is still time for other firms to come on board and we would be delighted to hear from them,” said club secretary and treasurer, John Brennan.
John can be contacted on 01388 777184 or at jmbrennan10@aol.com.
Shildon Railway Sports and Social Club (The BR) has very kindly given the cricket club £500 to use towards repairs and maintenance work on the boundary fence.
“We are very lucky to have one of the best playing surfaces in the county,” said a club spokesman, “so it’s important for us to keep our lovely little ground looking good.
“Obviously, this comes at a cost and this generous donation is a great help to us.”
