After serving as the Durham County Councillor for Spennymoor since May 2021, Cllr Luke Allan Holmes has announced that he will not be seeking re-election in 2025.

Reflecting on his decision, Cllr Holmes said: “It has been an honour to represent the wonderful community of Spennymoor.

“Together, we’ve accomplished great strides in education, infrastructure, safety, and community development.

“Whitworth Park School has seen a remarkable transformation; the town has been awarded £20 million from the Government to improve local infrastructure and services; and an increase in CCTV coverage has bolstered safety efforts.”

Expressing his gratitude, Cllr Holmes added: “I want to sincerely thank the residents of Spennymoor for entrusting me with this responsibility.

“The progress we’ve made is a testament to the collective effort of our community.”

Acknowledging the collaborative spiritacross the community, he said: “I extend my heartfelt appreciation to everyone I’ve had the privilege to work with – local businesses, community leaders, and dedicated individuals. Your commitment has been the driving force behind our accomplishments.”

While not seeking re-election, Cllr Holmes wanted to emphasise his continued dedication to Spennymoor: “Though I won’t be standing as Spennymoor’s candidate again, I remain committed to working tirelessly for Spennymoor and its people until the next election in May 2025,” he said. “Together, we will ensure the continued growth and prosperity of our community.”
