A Reform UK councillor has left her role as a cabinet member as part of a council restructure, writes Local Democracy Reporter, Bill Edgar.

Cllr Lindsay Fox

Lyndsey Fox was previously in charge of Durham County Council’s Economy and Enterprise portfolio.

The Bishop Auckland county councillor was elected in May 2025 and was unveiled as part of Reform UK’s leadership team.

Andrew Husband, council leader, said Cllr Fox’s former role will be scrapped.

“We are currently in the process of reviewing the Cabinet structure and will be announcing further details in due course,” Cllr Husband said.

“However, I can confirm that the portfolio for economy and partnerships will no longer exist.”

Cllr Fox’s other committee appointments, as listed on the council website, include the Bishop Auckland Stronger Town Board and a substitute member for the North East Combined Authority.

Sam Rushworth MP for Bishop Auckland criticised the move, saying: “The absolute shambles of Reform at County Hall continues.

“After ditching the council’s commitment to climate change, and ditching their own promise not to raise council tax, ditching the position of Cabinet Member for Economy and Enterprise puts at risk the regional growth that we desperately need here.

“For all their promises and bluster, Reform in County Durham are simply not serious about tackling the issues we face.”
