Lighting specialist Tridonic’s team in the company’s Spennymoor Manufacturing and R&D facility have taken home the top accolade for its commitment to STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education for the second year running.
The STEM Awards recognises the contributions of schools, individuals and businesses across the North East, who go above and beyond to drive STEM forward.
This year’s event honoured the passion and innovation of those who are helping to shape the future of STEM by opening doors for young people and empowering future talent.
Tridonic’s team picked up the accolade for Largest Number of STEM Ambassadors from an SME, recognising the number of hours spent spearheading a range of STEM-based initiatives, including workshops, education fairs and talks to educate and empower young people.
Over 3,500 children and young people have been engaged through the scheme, from school talks to completion of one of a host of qualifications. The successful programme has resulted in three students being offered permanent employment at Tridonic.
Tina Taylor, Trainer and Ideas Coordinator for Tridonic, said: “The team absolutely loves being a part of this initiative and we are so proud to have picked up this award for a second year, in recognition of the dedication and time – over 300 hours – that our eight ambassadors have put into the programme.
“We are excited to enter year three and look forward to meeting more local young people to inspire, inform and educate about STEM-based careers.”
