Ferryhill Miners FC U16s would like to say the biggest thank you to everyone who gave their support for the Kris Bradley Cup on 22 February at Ferryhill Leisure Centre, writes Hayley Allen, one of the event organisers.
All funds raised were donated to the Bradley family. Father of three, Kris Bradley was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer in summer 2024 which had spread to the lymph nodes.
Since being diagnosed, Kris has had an intense round of chemotherapy and has recently just had a massive 10-hour surgery to remove the tumour. He still has another round of intense chemotherapy to undertake once he recovers from the surgery.
Kris and his wife, Melissa are regular supporters of the U16s and are there every week to support the team.
In turn, the team was able to raise an amazing £2286.20 for the family, which was just fantastic.
It was a fantastic game of football with the best set of lads and adults. With the full-time score of 3-3, the game was decided from the spot with the adults winning 4-1 on penalties.
Chris Chapman, captain of the adults team kindly donated the trophy to Leon, Kris’s son, who is one of the U16s team.
A massive thank you to everyone involved in making this happen: Paula Christon, David Allen, Wayne Christon, the players, the supporters, the raffle prize donations, cash donations.
And also a massive thank you to the Bradley family, Kris and Melissa, Leon, Brooke and Jaxon- for letting us do this for them. The community certainly comes together in time of need.
