A fantastic afternoon of music, dancing, bingo and fundraising was held at Spennymoor Workingmen’s Club on Sunday August 23, raising an amazing £2,000 so far for Motor Neurone Disease (MND), writes David Auston.
The event was organised in support of local lady Carol Ardle, who is living with MND, with the aim of raising money and showing Carol and her family the support of the local community.
The idea for the event began at the club’s Rock and Roll Club, when Sarah Campbell, Veronica Bolton and Sue Goulder decided they wanted to organise an event to raise money and awareness in aid of MND.
The idea quickly gathered momentum as word of the event spread throughout the local community.
Donations and raffle prizes began flooding in from generous local people and businesses, allowing the organisers to put together a fantastic afternoon of entertainment and fundraising.
More than 200 people attended, enjoying an afternoon of music and dancing, bingo and a raffle with some fantastic prizes — all generously donated.
A special thank you goes to Louise Liddell, who generously gave her time free of charge to entertain the crowd, singing and providing music for everyone to dance along to.
A great deal of work also went on behind the scenes, with volunteers helping to sell raffle tickets and organise the event.
The generosity and support shown by everyone involved has been truly appreciated.
The fundraising total has now passed £2,000, which is a fantastic achievement and a wonderful testament to the generosity of the Spennymoor community.
Sarah, Veronica and Sue would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who donated, provided raffle prizes, sold tickets, helped organise the afternoon, provided entertainment and, most importantly, came along to support the event.
The afternoon was a wonderful example of the local community coming together to support Carol and those affected by MND.
What started as an idea at the Rock and Roll Club has turned into an incredible show of friendship, generosity and community spirit.
Every penny raised will help make a difference, and the organisers are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make the afternoon such a fantastic success.
