A community event is being held to showcase Bishop Auckland Railway Station on Saturday 15th August.
The event is being organised by Bishop Trains and Local Motion, the sustainable transport team for South Durham, and will feature organisations from across the area.
The event follows on from last year’s opening of the Durham County Council funded Travel Hub which saw a new waiting area and facilities installed as part of improvements to the station.
Bishop Auckland Station History Group will be bringing the NUR Railway banner to the event, which will be the first time it has been displayed at the station since 1984.
There will be the opportunity to meet the artists behind the new station mural, and vintage bus town tours will be running from the station.
Local Motion Travel Rangers will be offering information and advice on travel needs and free bike security marking. They will also have their smoothie bike so visitors can have a go at pedalling their way to their five a day, and Halfords will be there offering free bike health checks.
Bishop FM will be broadcasting live from the event, which will also include Bishop Line, Auckland Castle, Royal British Legion, and the Stockton and Darlington Railway Youth Team.
Councillor Neil Foster, Durham County Council’s Cabinet member for economic regeneration and culture, said, “With a range of exciting developments happening in Bishop Auckland and more people than ever expected to come to the town, we hope the much-improved railway station will be a focal point for both visitors and the local community.
“We’d like to invite everyone along to this special day to take part in the fun and see all of the recent improvements for themselves.”
Pop along between 10am and 3pm.
