Last Friday, 31 January, saw the opening of the new Ferryhill Banking Hub, which will be temporally housed at Dean Bank Literary Institute until a permanent location can be found.
The project, which has been in the planning since 2023, has been led by Cllr Peter Atkinson, supported by Cllr Curtis Bihari and lately by Newton Aycliffe and Spennymoor MP Alan Strickland.
Ferryhill Town Mayor, Cllr Carole Atkinson welcomed staff of the Banking Hub to Ferryhill, accompanied by fellow councillors, Peter Atkinson and Curtis Bihari.
Mayor Atkinson said: “I am delighted that residents now have access to banking facilities in Ferryhill and wish the staff every success.”
Banking hubs offer easy access to face-to-face cash and banking in the heart of communities.
Open Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm, the banking hub has a counter where customers can access cash services from the Post Office counter service whenever the Hub is open. Customers can:
- Pay in cash (notes and coins) and cheques.
- Withdraw cash (notes and coins).
- Check your balance.
- Pay utility bills.
- Top up your gas and electricity.
- Access change-giving services (for registered businesses).
Customers can also talk to a community banker from your bank on the day your bank is in the Hub. There is a private space where you can talk face-to-face about more complicated banking enquiries like payments and transfers, managing your account, and how to use online banking.
Community bankers from Lloyds (Mon), Barclays (Tue), Santander (Wed), Halifax (Thu) and Natwest (Fri) are available on different days, however, customers of all major banks and building societies can access cash services from the Post Office counter service whenever the hub is open.
