The fortunes of Auckland/Chilton Croquet Club have experienced a roller coaster ride lately, writes Richard Peck.

Last week saw another crushing defeat against Durham Bede, but this week, ACC stood toe to toe with Alnmouth Blues albeit, sadly, they were were finally squeezed out by 9.5 to 8.5. However, well done to Marcia, John, David and Jane for helping to turn things around.

Also last week, we hosted another visit from the Wolsingham WI who thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

In a few weeks’ time, we will be hosting a group from Age UK Durham who are coming to try their hand at croquet.

If you’re fed up with the footy and tennis isn’t your thing, why not come down and have a go yourself? Come with a friend. Your first two sessions are free!

All equipment and coaching is free and after those two sessions you can continue at £5 per session or simply walk away.
It’s a good way to get fresh air, gentle exercise and learn something new.

You’ll find us at the Miners Welfare Recreation Ground, Chilton just behind the Jet petrol station on the A167 roundabout.

Our sessions run from 2pm through to 4-4:30pm. All you need is a pair of flat shoes, a shower-proof jacket (just in case!) and a hat to protect from the sun. Come on, have a go!
