Chamber choir to host “Come along and enjoy a sing with us” events

Bishop Auckland’s Chamber Choir, The Andreas Ensemble, is providing an opportunity for choral singers to enjoy some of the great works of the renaissance masters. Byrd, Palestrina and Tomkins, together with some popular choir favourites like Ave Verum (Mozart and Byrd), even a couple of Northumbrian folksongs for light relief, and the great welsh hymn Cwm Rhondda are set to be performed.

“The Andreas Ensemble, first formed in Spring 2005 in Bishop Auckland, offers a wonderful opportunity for capable amateur singers to rise to the challenge of performing music from our glorious heritage of church music, the music of the great cathedral choirs of England and of Europe, alongside secular items like madrigals and part-songs,” said Brian Varley.

“This is a friendly and enthusiastic chamber choir, which sets itself high standards of choral singing, drawing singers with a real love of church music from all over County Durham,” he added, “and from churches of all denominations: Methodist, Roman Catholic, Anglican and others, but including individuals not currently associated with any particular religious organisation.”

The Ensemble rehearses each week, on Tuesday evenings from 7.30-9.15pm, in the lovely spacious acoustics of St Mary’s RC Church, Bishop Auckland. There is also a coffee break in the interval to enjoy a chat.

“Don’t miss this opportunity to sing some glorious music,” said Brian.
