Members of Ferryhill Celtic FC invited representative of the Motor Neurone Disease Association to their latest Durham & District Sunday League Premier Division match to present a cheque for £2,100 which was raised during the pre-season Dougie Wynn Tournament. Motor neurone disease is a rare condition that progressively damages parts of the nervous system, leading to muscle weakness, often with visible wasting. There is currently no known cure for the illness.
The visiting dignatories were treated to an entertaining, if ultimately disappointing result for the home side, who hosted
Ouston Cherry Tree FC at the Broom Rec on Sunday 8th October.
The first half started off well for Celtic and their positive play was rewarded when they took the lead in the 20th minute when a Jason White corner was headed home by Marco Linhart.
Ten minutes later Celtic looked comfortable when they doubled their lead through Jonathon Agar, but the half time dynamics changed when, with the last kick of the first half, Ouston pulled a goal back to halve the deficit.
And the visitors capitalised on their momentum by levelling the scores just two minutes into the second half.
However, Celtic edged themselves back in front on the hour when Ouston conceded a penalty and Agar stepped up to double his tally and score Celtic’s third of the game.
But the visitors weren’t done and levelled again. With Celtic on course for their first drawn match of the season, Ouston had other ideas and finally broke Celtic’s resistance to score the game’s seventh and final goal and clinch a thrilling 3-4 away win.
Celtic’s next game is a trip to their vanquisher’s home town, this time to take on second division Ouston Juniors in the Third Round of the Alan Smith Trophy. Kick off is at 10:30am at Ouston Football Club AFC.
