Community musicians Citizen Songwriters are releasing a CD of new songs titled Cradle of the Railways based on Shildon, the world’s first railway town. The EP will be released on Friday 15 July, and will be available on all music platforms including Spotify and iTunes. It can also be purchased from Shildon Institute and other local venues.
All funds raised will help support the Shildon Institute Singers, a new community choir run by Rosie Bradford. The Singers meet every Friday from 6pm to 7pm and accepts all abilities whilst operating on a pay what you can basis. The songs featured were professionally recorded by Graham Kay from XtraSonic Media earlier this year at Shildon Railway Institute.
In the CD, they bring alive stories from the community workshops that Citizen Songwriters ran alongside the Shildon Railway Institute and the Friends of Stockton & Darlington Railway last summer. Musicians from the project will be performing songs from the CD at the Rail Heritage Exhibition at Shildon Railway Institute on Sunday 17 July at 3pm. The exhibition is free and will involve rail exhibitors from across the region. There will also be a free guided walk around Shildon to learn all about its fascinating heritage and pioneers who gave birth to the modern passenger railway.
