Chilton Catholic Club held a memorial night last month in honour of Jeffrey “Swig” Stubbs. Swig’s family and friends chose to donate money raised from the event to the Great Aycliffe Cancer Support Group.
The charity’s secretary, Marianne Short said: “Thank you to the Catholic Club for hosting this event and donating £100. Thanks also to the Whisky Drinking Coffin Dodgers from the Wheatsheaf for the donation of £200. And thank you to everyone who donated raffle prizes and money towards the cost of the turn. A good night was had by all, and the fantastic total of £1,368 was raised in Swig’s memory. This donation will help Great Aycliffe Cancer Support Group to continue its vital work in providing a wide variety of services to cancer patients in our area.“
The charity’s work includes:
- providing information on issues affecting cancer patients
- patient transport
- influencing cancer services in the future
- regular social activities, with others affected by cancer
- assistance with benefits claims
- day trips, social events and meals out
- confidential and emotional support in a safe and friendly environment
- use of their holiday caravan.
