It started on Friday 8 December when Peter Cooke and Joe Ward, on behalf of the club, took a coach load of pupils from Evergreen School to the Gala Theatre in Durham City to watch a matinee performance of Cinderella.
After dinner at Bishop Auckland Golf Club on Saturday 9th December, this year’s short but excellent Rotary Christmas Message was delivered by Rev. Matt Keddilty.
The Rotary Club are very grateful to Bishop Auckland Golf Club’s Management Team especially Lesley and Natalie for looking after us on this and many other occasions throughout the year.
Our Rotary Carol Service with Christmas Readings, on 17 December, was held in a packed St. Cuthbert’s Church, Etherley.
The event was organised by Rotarian John Yeomans in conjunction with church wardens Barrie Kirton, Elizabeth Jude and Sheila Mulgrew.
We were delighted that Rev. Linda Dodds was able to lead such a warm, uplifting service.
It was followed by Mince Pies and tea and coffee. The retiring collection raised £205 for church funds.
As in many previous years, Rotarians were out in force collecting around our Christmas Tree outside the Newgate Centre whilst listening to Christmas songs. The “Tree Event” was organised by President Graham Barsby who decided that our two Christmas Charities will be Great North Air Ambulance Service and blood Bikes.
Although footfall was down, we managed to collect £1,010. Thank you to all who donated.
Bishop Auckland Rotary Club meets on Tuesday evenings at 6.15pm for 6.45pm at Bishop Auckland Golf Club. Our motto is “Service above Self”.
