Shildon AFC is delighted to announce they have secured planning permission for the installation of new pitch floodlighting at Dean Street.

The current floodlights have been in place since the mid 1980’s and are well beyond their expected life span.

The new floodlights will ensure that we meet league requirements, not only now but in the future, with regard to pitch illumination.

The club has appointed Direct Sports Lighting (as a preferred supplier of the Premier League Stadium Fund) for the installation of the floodlights, utilising their Apex Pro LED lights.

The scheme is being funded via the Premier League Stadium Fund and the football club.

Preparatory work will begin this month with the new floodlights being operational for the start of the 2024/2025 season.

Chairman, David Dent said: “I am delighted that Durham County Council has approved our plans for the new floodlights at Dean Street. The new LED lights are much more energy efficient and moves the club one more step towards sustainability. Thank you to the Premier League for their continued support and we look forward to working with Direct Sports Lighting on the installation.”

Meanwhile, on the pitch, the side prevailed 3-5 in an eight-goal thriller at Whickham.

A Scott Robson hat-trick for the home side, including the opener, was not enough as Shildon came from behind through Alex White (32) before stretching ahead via Billy Greulich-Smith (54), Joe Posthill (62 pen) and Brad Hird (72).

Two goals back for Whickham in 85 and 90 gave the Railwaymen a scare, but a Luke Spalding goal in added time completed the scoring.

This weekend, Shildon host Carlisle City, one of three clubs in the hunt for a promotion play-off spot who are separated by goal difference on 43 points. They then travel to Northallerton on Wednesday night.
