Blooming Winners Announced

Bishop Auckland Town Council held a presentation evening for the winners of this year’s Bishop Auckland in Bloom competition at the Town Hall on Tuesday, August 18th.

Judging for the competition was carried out by Mike Whatmore, a Horticulture Lecturer, and Bishop’s Mayor, Councillor David Wilson, presented the winners with prizes and awards.

Ian Robertson, of Langley Grove, was awarded first prize in the Back Garden category, while Janette Meek of The Dell and Mrs L Teasdale, of Escomb Road, were awarded second and third place respectively.

K and J Pincher from Church Drive scooped the first prize in the front garden section, while Charles Shaw, from Cockton Hill Road, won second place, and Stan Brownlee of Brinkburn Close won third.

Donna Young was awrded first prize in the yard category, for her Durham Street entry, with Mrs Fenwick of Seymour Street coming a close second.

In the Allotment section, 1st prize was awarded to John Nicholson for his plot at Coronation Allotments. P Nesbitt came second with his allotment at South Church, and St Wilfrid;s R.C. Primary School claimed third place with their plot at Woodhouse Close.

Trimmers Hairdressers bagged first prize in the business category, Langholme care home and the Postchaise Hotel were awarded second and third place respectively.

The proud overall winners of the competition were K and J Pincher of Church Drive, who also won the Front Garden category.
