Bishops in late FA Cup exit

Fans enjoy their FA Cup day out, albeit the result went against them.

Bishop Auckland FC came within nine minutes of securing a well-deserved FA Cup replay against South Shields but two late goals saw the hosts squeeze through to the next round against ten men.

The goals came in the 81st minute from the penalty spot and the 84th, in between which, Michael Woods was sent for an early bath for picking up a second yellow.

Bishops remain on cup duty this weekend as they travel to Yorkshire Amateur in the FA Vase.

Meanwhile, wins for Shildon, who now top the division, and Whitley Bay, saw the Two Blues slip to fourth in the Northern League Division One table.

However, a weekend defeat for Birtley Town, who started the day at the summit, means they remain within a point of Bishops ahead of the pair meeting at the Arrowmark Home Improvements Stadium next Tuesday evening (26 September).
