Bishop of Jarrow impressed by Shildon project

Bishop-Mark-Bryant-with-Revd-David-in-the-hubShildon Alive! (A Saint John’s Church Project) had some special guests this week as Bishop Mark Bryant, the Bishop of Jarrow, called with some visitors from London.

The visit was part of a tour the group were undertaking to see the ways in which North East communities were looking out for themselves and how the church sought to help. Coming into the Church Street hub, Bishop Mark described the project as outstanding, both in the very practical and day-to-day support offered to the wider community and in the vision for future developments.

“I love coming to Shildon,” he said, “because this is a community that cares”. Listening to some of the stories told by volunteers in the hub the Bishop made clear his intention to revisit, to learn more, and to give any support he could to a project that in his words is “really making a difference.”
