Matthew Bradley, from Escomb Road in Bishop Auckland, was honoured to be selected as part of the England North swimming team at this year’s Sainsbury’s UK School Games, which took place from 4th to the 7th of September in various locations around Manchester.
The swimming competition was held at the Manchester Aquatics Centre in the heart of the city and involved teams from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Matthew, aged 16, represented England North as a pupil from St. John’s School and Sixth Form College and as a swimmer from Sedgefield 75 ASC.
He competed in the men’s 50M freestyle event taking, the bronze medal in a time of 24.71 seconds. Matthew then swam the third leg of the men’s 4 x 100M freestyle, taking the team into the lead after his swim, resulting in a gold medal. He also took part in the men’s individual 100M freestyle in which he achieved a time of 54.75.
The England North team fielded a strong squad and won overall in the swimming competition.
Sedgefield 75 ASC’s Head Coach, John Moore, was pleased to see that Matthew had been chosen for the prestigious event and could see the reward of hard work and training had paid off, with some good personal times achieved by Matthew at the very start of the 2014/2015 swimming season.
