Auckland Chilton Croquet Update

Auckland Chilton Croquet paid a very successful visit to Bishop Monkton CC last Tuesday to play a friendly match, reports club secretary, Richard Peck. Instead of counting match wins the overall number of hoops scored was used to determine the winner.

Throughout the day the games were closely contended with good play from both sets of players. At lunchtime after four rounds, the score was 73 to BM and 68 to ACC. After the penultimate round, the score stood at BM 106, ACC 102. The ACC captain told the team they needed to win each game by two hoops and the last four games were 2-3, 3-4, 3-6, 3-5 all to ACC, making the final score BM 117, ACC 120 and a win by a narrow margin.

On Saturday, a return to the Croquet North league fixtures saw Bamburgh visit Chilton. In another closely contested game our team of Carol, Eugene, Jane B and William overcame the visitors winning by 10 points to 8. Congratulations to all who took part. You can try your hand at croquet by Miners Welfare Recreation Ground on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday afternoons from 2pm until 4pm-ish. We’re always looking for new or returning players of all ages. Your first three sessions are free and all equipment is free to use and it’s a good way to get fresh air, gentle exercise and learn something new.
