Ferryhill Athletic got back to winning ways with a 4-2 victory over Wynyard Village at the weekend reports Chris Orton. Following a disappointing recent spell of games, Athletic were much more impressive here.
Wynyard offered little throughout the game and their two goals were very much against the run of play.
Ferryhill started well when Jay Roddam shot wide early on and after 17 minutes Adam Morland got back on the scoresheet, turning the ball into the net at the near post from a corner. Just a few minutes later Athletic doubled their lead with Kieron Richardson somehow scrambling the ball over the opposition’s goal line. Wynyard got one back soon after when a speculative shot managed to find its way past the Ferryhill defence. For a spell, Wynyard gave Athletic a good test but the die was cast when Morland got his second just before half time.
The scoring continued in the second half when Richardson doubled his tally by slotting the ball in from a very narrow angle, ensuring that it eluded the Wynyard keeper. Brad Wilson was a constant threat and came close to scoring himself, but shot over the bar; Morland also going close again during the spell. Athletic were clearly the dominant team by now, with good performances throughout; Reece Marshall was having a very good game in defence, David Gibson was dominating the midfield and Jacob Crowle was commanding between the sticks. The returning Chris Devine hit the post towards the end, and Richardson also shot over. In truth, Ferryhill could have had seven or eight goals in this game and would have got them if the finishing had been more clinical.
