With no game this week, next up for Ferryhill Athletic is the Sunderland Shipowners Cup when they entertain Cumbrian side Windscale on Saturday 7 October at Dean Bank at 2.30pm.
A small admission charge of £3 for adults and £1.50 for concessions will be made as the match will have two linesmen as well as a referee, however under 16’s will be admitted free.
The competition was inaugurated in the 1898-99 season by Alderman Ralph B Annison and the money raised from the competition went to the Boys Orphanage on the edge of Sunderland’s Town Moor.
The first winners were Wearside League club, Royal Rovers who beat Whitburn 2-1 in the final replay, raising £50 for the orphanage (over £7,000 in today’s money).
