Apprentice to help lead social media drive

Beth Walker, 18, has been appointed as a digital and social media apprentice at Bishop Auckland College, a role which sees her handling the college’s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest accounts, as well as managing email marketing campaigns.

Other responsibilities include blogging, website updates, and producing artwork for promotional materials, the latter enabling Beth to use her artistic skills, developed while studying for an Extended BTEC Diploma in Art and Design.

Beth, of Spennymoor, works full time for the college’s marketing department and studies for her Level 3 apprenticeship one day per fortnight, alongside other students who have similar roles elsewhere.

She said: “I’ve only been at the college for a few weeks and I’m already really enjoying my job role.

“It suits me really well because social media, and art and design is what I love doing. It’s a great place to work.”

Kevin Burns, head of marketing and school liaison at the college, added: “Beth is one of the new Level 3 apprentices the college has taken on this term, and, in just a few weeks, is already making a huge impact.

“We created the digital and social media apprenticeship in response to the increase in demand for specialists to develop online social media strategies, in order to promote services and influence audiences.”
