Volunteers and staff at the Scope charity shop, 12 Newgate Street, are urging the local community to get behind the disability charity’s Great Donate stock appeal this summer.
As part of the appeal, the charity has released an online spoof of the iconic Cadbury’s Milk Tray adverts – casting disabled comedian Adam Hills as the dashing Man in Black and actress and presenter Holly Valance as his leading lady.
The Bishop Auckland Scope charity shop has organised a live outside event located at the Arts Centre in Bishop Auckland market place.
Volunteers at the Bishop Auckland Scope shop hope that the local community will get behind the campaign and help them play their part in the annual drive to get one million donated items by the end of July.
Funds raised by the appeal will support Scope’s work with disabled children, adults and their families.
The charity is looking for any donations of pre-loved clothes and goods to help reach its ambitious target.
Jonathan Woodhouse (Shop Manager) and his volunteers (Lauren, Paige, Don, Dan and Terry) say, “Money raised by our shops support thousands of disabled people and their families. But we need your help to continue this vital work – so please drop off the things you no longer need at your local Scope shop this July.
“On Saturday 18th July at 10am, we are dressing up in various costumes and will be handing out sweets, balloons and donation bags to the local community. We would be so grateful if you could fill a donation bag with any unwanted items. We will also be having a tombola and ‘guess the teddy’s name’ in the shop.
“Please come along. It’s going to be a fun day!”
