Ambassadors for Community Change work hard at being active, engaged, and motivated so that they are able to transform their community and society.
They are tasked with finding out the views of children in their community, and are then supported to have dialogue with adults who can help them bring about change.
Glenys from Approach Too said “We are delighted that through their Ferryhill Crime Survey which was completed by nearly 800 adults, children and young people, the Ambassadors helped add weight to the successful Safer Streets funding application. It was fantastic to work in partnership with Joy Allen, Joe Quinn, Anthony Paul Donald, Sue Jones, Peter Atkinson, Carole Atkinson, Curtis Bihari, Paul Howell, Spennymoor and Ferryhill Police, Livin, Val Watson, and Paul Eddy.”
The Safer Streets funding has been secured by Police and Crime Commissioner Joy Allen to help crackdown on anti social behaviour and neighbourhood crime. The funding will fund the upgrade of CCTV cameras, the delivery of a youth mentoring programme, delivery of the Curve Project, purchase of security equipment for homes, the installation of window and door decorative boards for 30 empty properties and a educational programme in the local schools.
Commissioner Allen said “Tackling anti-social behaviour and neighbourhood crime are key priorities in my Police and Crime Plan. I am delighted to have secured this substantial funding boost to increase our efforts to protect people and property across the force area.
“This money will be invested in a number of improvements to make our communities stronger and more resilient to crime and anti-social behaviour. It will also help my team, and our partners address the root cause of nuisance behaviour and give young people alternative outlets to channel their energy, and attention, bringing lasting solutions to our communities.”
