Auckland Chilton Croquet Club’s final league match of the season, against top of the table Alnmouth Reds, went right down to the wire.
With the lead switching from side to side, the ACC team of the two Janes, Carol and Marcia put on a marvellous display against the tough opposition.
In the last doubles game of the day, and with only 13 seconds left to play, Marcia (playing with Carol) kept a cool head and ran the 13th hoop to secure a 7-6 win.
That winning game resulted in an overall 9-9 drawn match and the single match point enabled Alnmouth to become CN league champions.
ACC could finish second or third depending on the result of the Bamburgh vs Durham Bede later in the month and we will keep you updated on the final standings once the tie is played.
