Academy Plans Scrapped

Plans to unite two schools in Bishop Auckland as one large Academy have been scrapped by the new coalition Government.

King James I Community Arts College and Bishop Barrington Sports with Mathematics College, were to be given funding to build a ‘super school’ by the former Labour administration.

The project is one of several in the country to be shelved under new budget plans, and MP for Bishop Auckland, Helen Goodman, has condemned the announcement.

She said, “This is terrible news. By taking £100 million out of our children’s futures, the new Lib Dem / Tory Government are already undoing the work we did over the last decade to improve our local schools and education system.

“I fought the last election pledging to support building these new schools, and I am saddened, disappointed and angry that they will now not go ahead.”
