Saint John’s Church enjoyed a record-breaking Christmas Fayre on Saturday 23rd November. With people queuing from 9.30am, the sun shining and stalls groaning under the weight of goods, a fun time was pretty much ensured.
The cake stall was mobbed within minutes of opening and with a toy stall surrounded by eager children, competition for certain toys was fierce.
The bric-a-brac, books, lucky dip and bottle stalls all did brisk business whilst the many craft stalls did not just sell beautifully made products but displayed the talents of local people as well.
Santa (aka Andy Todd) put in an appearance with much ‘ho-hoing’ and ringing of the bell, whilst Mrs Santa (aka Davina Tomlinson) was also there, serving hotdogs with seasonal cheer.
The raffle, match funded by Barclays bank, was a popular draw with Mrs Lisa Cunningham winning the first prize of £50.
Revd. David commented, “The Saint John’s Fayre was not just about raising money but about coming together as a community, celebrating the good things we have, and building happy memories.”
Joyce Petty, who coordinated the many stalls, expressed her gratitude to all those who attended.
“I can’t wait for the next one,” she said, “as long as it’s not next week!”
In total £2,800 was raised, which will be used to help maintain the Church building.
