A disappointing result for Shildon AFC

Shildon AFC are now 9th in the league after a disappointing result on Saturday 18th October, going down 1 – 0 at Heritage Park, Bishop Auckland.

Despite Shildon’s Ben Wood having three good chances and Bishop’s No 8 Kieran Megran firing over the bar from 5 yards out, it was goalless at half time.

Half Time: Bishop Auckland 0 Shildon AFC 0.

Bishop’s scored the only goal of the game on 51 minutes when a long ball was pounced on by John Butler, who ran through and beat keeper Kyle Hayes.

Shildon were not playing well, but pressed for the equaliser.

First Jamie Harwood had a clear header, but missed, then Chris Emms hit the bar. Minutes later Paul Connor was through but his shot hit keeper Scott Pocklington.

In time added on Shildon’s Darren Craddock was given his marching orders for a deliberate last man hand ball.

Final Score: Bishop Auckland 1 – Shildon AFC 0.

Subs: Emms for Brackstone 46, Rae for Wood 66, Rundle for Scroggins 72.

Bookings; (Y) Hodgson 38, Moore 53, Scroggins 65. (R) Craddock 92.

Man-of-the-Match: Couldn’t pick one.

A disappointing result with Shildon not able to get going.

Shildon AFC are away at Norton United from Stoke-on-Trent on Saturday 25th October in the 4th Qualifying Round of the F.A.Cup.

Norton are mid table in the Evo Stik 1st Division South and before last Saturday’s away defeat, when they were reduced to 10 men, they had won their last 8 games in both league and cup competitions.

The Railwaymen will have to play a lot better than they did against local rivals Bishop’s last weekend if they are to progress into the 1st Round proper.

Both buses travelling to Shildon’s away tie at Colne on 1st November for the F.A. Vase game are full. They will be leaving the Royal George car park at 9.30am.
