A Christmas message from the Mayor of Ferryhill

As Mayor of Ferryhill, I am halfway through my year, which has certainly been a busy one. I have attended many different events, both in Ferryhill and across County Durham, and have met many interesting people. It has been a whirlwind of activity so far. I am having a wonderful time serving as Mayor of Ferryhill for the second time and there is still so much to look forward to next year.

It was a particular honour, as Mayor, to represent the town at the Remembrance Service and parade. As always this was extremely well attended.

I would like to recognise the hard work of organisations and locals, who have continued to help others and make Ferryhill a better place. Earlier in the year I had the pleasure of presenting Civic awards to those who have gone the extra mile for our community. These awards are a great way of recognising their achievements and celebrating their commitment. Thank you to every one of you who are making a difference.

More highlights from the year were the Christmas Fayre and Christmas Lights Switch On which took place recently as well as my Civic Carol Service, something that everyone could take part in and come together as a community.

As a Town Council we are now looking to put our plans together for next year. Please keep a look out for fundraising events in the new year and come along and support me and help raise money for my chosen charities – Ferryhill Scout Group and Ferryhill Miners United FC.

I would like to extend my personal thanks to those who continue to look after us and keep us safe, particularly throughout the festive period – police, health staff, fire service and carers, thank you for all that you do.

Christmas is a time to step back, take a breath and recharge with those closest to us, so as we reach the festive period and approach 2025, I would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a healthy and peaceful New Year!

Councillor Carole Atkinson, Mayor of Ferryhill
