Shildon young people found themselves face to face with the Bishop of Durham (Bishop Paul) on Saturday 13th September.
Over a hundred young people descended on Auckland Castle for the aptly named ‘Youth Invasion’ organised in partnership with Saint John’s Church in Shildon and Wear Valley Christian Centre in Bishop Auckland.
The young people had the chance to put their questions to the Bishop and these ranged from the profound ‘why does God allow bad things’ to the humorous ‘what song would you sing on X-Factor’ followed by chants of ‘sing, sing,’ an invitation the Bishop smilingly declined.
Staffed by volunteers from Shildon Alive!, Saint John’s Church and Bishop Auckland, a whole range of activities were on offer. The Rodeo Bull had a queue all evening, whilst putting youth leaders in the stocks and throwing wet sponges at them was also a hit, albeit a wet one. Revd. David commented, “How lovely it was to see so many happy faces, having such a great night’, Bishop Paul added that “our young people are just amazing, we should all be so proud of them”.
