Young players Manup in Manchester

Sedgefield Water Polo Club sent a young men’s team to compete at the ManUp Festival in Salford Quays, Manchester recently.

The smaller outdoor pitch and slightly different rules made the games more fun, exciting and fast paced with lots more opportunity to score goals.

Thankfully, unlike previous years, the weather was on the players’ side this year.

The team started with their first game of the day against Hallam, unfortunately narrowly losing with a final score of 7-9.

This was followed by another tightly contested game against the Army, losing just 4-6.

Despite two losses by the halfway point of the tournament, this did not deter the team and they fought hard against Cathal Brugha, winning with a fantastic 8-4 scoreline.

After this win, the men’s final game was against Notts Old Boys, who were much stronger and the game finished with a 5-10 loss.

The tournament was always going to be a tough one for the young team but their fighting spirit and determination shone through, more so because they participated as a team of just six, without a designated goalkeeper, each taking turns to rotate, reflecting their team spirit.

The club is offering player sponsorships for just £30 for the season in return for regular advertising and promotion on our social media pages.

If your business is interested you can get in touch by emailing sedgefieldwp[@]hotmail[.]com or calling 07579 030598.

The club also offers a beginner session at Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre on a Saturday afternoon for those wishing to try this fun and exciting sport.

All sessions need to be booked in advance on the club app, so check their website at sedgefieldwaterpolo.com for further information and joining instructions.
