Public transport enthusiasts turned out in their hundreds on Sunday for the YESTERBUS Fathers Day Classic Gathering held at Locomotion Railway Museum in Shildon.
With nearly 30 buses ranging from the 1940s up to the early noughties it was quite a spectacle to see and was staged in memory of Andrew Dolan who passed away last autumn from brain cancer at age 62. Andrew had been involved in the bus industry for all of his working life in addition to being a classic bus and railways enthusiast.
Yesterbus was started by the late Stephen Foster and is now a registered charity preserving and promoting classic vehicles and events. The Father’s Day event was organized by chair of the trustees Graeme Scarlett.
Graeme said “It has become a bit of a tradition in various areas to have classic events on Father’s Day and whilst the event is run in memory of Andrew, he would have wanted it to have a happy atmosphere. So in addition to the vehicles we had music playing all day with a fairground organ and the Binchester Ukulele Band.”
Graeme continued, “I would like to thank everyone who brought vehicles today also musicians and visitors who made the event a success, thanks for my store so go to the staff of the Locomotion Museum in particular Pam Porter for her enthusiastic support in helping organise the event.”
