West Auckland Amateur Boxing Club had the pleasure of welcoming three-time World Champion and Olympic bronze medallist, Robin Reid to their gym last month.

Reid, who competed from 1993 to 2012, held the WBC super-middleweight title from 1996 to 1997, and the IBO super-middleweight title from 2004 to 2005.

As an amateur, he represented Great Britain at 1992 Summer Olympics, winning the bronze medal in the light-middleweight division.

Robin trained with all the boxers at the gym and gave a fascinating talk about boxing.

“It was a fantastic afternoon for all involved,” said gym founder, Stephen Nicholson, “and he’s coming back to our fully sold out home show on Saturday 22 March with George Groves, the former WBA (Super) super-middleweight title holder from 2017 to 2018.

“Robin will present the best junior with a special pair of golden gloves and gold medal engraved to commemorate our 5th anniversary show.

“George has supported us before and will return again to present the belt for best Senior/Youth belt along with their medal and special pair of 5th anniversary gloves.”
