Thomas Kelly, 2nd prize winner at the 2026 Utrecht Liszt competition, a prize winner at the 2021 Leeds International Piano Competition and the current holder of the Benjamin Britten fellowship at the Royal College of Music, opens the Society’s new season with a recital at 3pm on Sunday, 4 October. His successes have led to the development of a truly international career, with 2026 appearances in Berlin, New York, Seoul and Oslo.
In a challenging and varied programme, he will perform works by Chopin, Scriabin, Rachmaninov and Castelnuovo-Tedesco, the latter’s solo piano works rarely featuring in recital programmes. But the highlight should be Thomas’s performance of Liszt’s Sonata – at the Utrecht competition, where every competitor is obliged to perform this masterpiece, he won the special award for the finest performance.
Greg Johnson, chairman, said “We are fortunate to secure Thomas to open our season of six recitals between now and April 2027. His many plaudits include references to his ‘outrageous virtuosity and technical mastery’ which should be very much in evidence”.

The recital takes place in Central Hall, the Dolphin Centre, at 3pm on 4 October.
