Dates for your diary: The next meeting/get together is Wednesday 21 January 11.00am to 2.00pm, at the Resthouse, Hackworth Park, Shildon, DL4 1DW.
It’s not looking any better for the Veterans Hub for the coming months, writes Glen Gibson. Even though it is great to see some of the Veterans return and enjoy the craic, we continue to need veterans and their families to attend. Numbers have been low over the last few months, and we are always looking at ways to improve and build attendance numbers, but we need your input. If anyone has any ideas and would like to contribute, please either ring the Council offices on 01388 772563 or email council[@]shildon[.]gov[.]uk.
Some proposed changes are reducing the hours and making into a sort of Brunch Club or Chatty café and our new tea/coffee mugs are now with us and in use.
The Resthouse is in a beautiful location overlooking the park with fantastic views. Space for children to play and dogs to walk which makes this an ideal spot to sit and relax, enjoy a chat and a cuppa.
If anyone wants to help and support the veterans of the Town and surrounding areas, please feel free to pop in and have a chat.
The Hub is also a place where Veterans who need support can come and be aided towards the specific direction for help. A place where Veterans can applied for their armed Forces Veterans card which allows discounts in a wide variety of retail outlets and eateries.
There are still a lot of things happening for Veterans in Shildon, the Shildon Branch – Royal British Legion (2nd Tuesday of Month from 7.00pm in the Institute) & the Masonic Veterans breakfast club.
So please come along and support the Veterans Hub and be part of something meaningful, help us support those who have or still serving in His Majesty’s Armed Forces.
Continued thanks as always to Shildon Town Council, Shildon Alive & Health Express and to those Veterans who attend and enjoy the banter and chat.
