Date for your diary – the next meeting/get-together will be on Wednesday 20 November from 11.00am to 2.00pm in the Resthouse, Hackworth Park, wrtes Glenn Gibson.
November’s get-together will be Fish and Chips Day. Many Thanks to County Cllr Rob Yorke and Health Express for providing this for the veterans. If you don’t want fish and chips the normal donations of food from Shildon Alive will still be available. However, only a limited amount has been ordered based on the average attendance over the last few months at the monthly hub meetings, so numbers will be taken at the start of the get-together with hopefully the delivery about 12.30pm.
October’s Curry Day was another success and believe me it was delicious. So again, many thanks to Wellbeing for Life with Kevin and Paul cooking and serving up such an aroma of spiced food. The good news is Wellbeing for Life are coming back in both January and February 2025 with maybe a nice broth/stew one month and another curry. Let’s see what they come up with and I’m sure it will be delightful and tasty whatever they do.
Remembrance Sunday for 2024 has just passed and another cracking turn out from all the people of Shildon to show respect to Veterans and to remember the fallen. It is truly a special day for everyone. As I mentioned last month it still shows how active the Shildon community are in supporting local Veterans in the town.
Well done Shildon Town Council, Royal British Legion – Shildon Branch, churches, Salvation Army band and the town’s organisations who took part, for making such a special occasion run smoothly. Both the Veterans Hub and the Shildon Branch RBL are linked as both provide support and friendship for Veterans in the town. The Hub is run and supported by Shildon Town Council in it’s commitment under the Armed Forces Covenant, for which the Council hold the Silver award. The Shildon Branch – Royal British Legion meet in the Railway Institute on the second Tuesday of each month at 8.00pm.
As we move quickly now into the festive season and the new year our thoughts will be moving to fundraising for good causes and projects in 2025, working alongside the RBL, other Veterans charities and possibly local organisations.
As always, I will continue with thanks, to be given to those organisations who continue to support us month after month, Shildon Town Council, Shildon Alive & Health Express.
