Ferryhill Station Royal British Legion welcomes the continued rollout and awareness of the NHS Veteran Friendly GP Practice scheme across England.
This scheme represents an important step forward in recognising the unique health needs of those who have served in the Armed Forces. By ensuring GP practices are better informed about the physical and mental health challenges linked to military service, veterans can receive more appropriate, understanding and effective care.
We strongly encourage all veterans in the Ferryhill and Chilton areas to ensure their GP is aware of their service history and that it is recorded on their medical records. This simple step can make a significant difference in accessing the right support, including referrals to specialist veteran services.
It is particularly positive to see that local practices, including Ferryhill and Chilton GP surgeries, are accredited under this scheme. This demonstrates a clear commitment within our community to supporting those who have served.
It is important to highlight that anyone who has served even one day in the Armed Forces is classed as a veteran and is entitled to this recognition within NHS services.
At the Royal British Legion, we remain committed to supporting veterans and their families. We encourage the community to share this information widely so no veteran misses out on the support they deserve.
