US Navy Veteran visits Spennymoor Veterans Breakfast Club

Peter Yarborough, seated, centre, meets members of Spennymoor Veterans Breackfast Club.

When members of the Spennymoor Veterans Breakfast Club meet up in Wetherspoons on Saturday, 20th April, they were joined by US Navy veteran Peter Yarborough.

Peter, 78, had contacted British Army veteran Pete Molloy, to see if he could attend the breakfast club after reading about the breakfast meeting in previous editions of the Spennymoor News.

Mr Yarborough served for eight years in the US Navy from 1964 to 1972, serving on aircraft carriers during the Vietnam War and was discharged in the UK, where he has been living ever since, including the last eleven years in Spennymoor.

Mr Molloy said: “This was the first time a veteran from another country’s military had contacted me to see if it was possible if they could come along our veterans breakfast club, so I informed other members and we were all in agreement that he would be made very welcome if he was to join us.”

The veterans breakfast club was well attended with many members speaking with Mr Yarborough to make him welcome and he received an invitation from a representative of the Spennymoor branch of the Royal Navy Association to attend their meetings.

The next meet up of the Spennymoor Veterans Breakfast Club will be in Wetherspoons on Saturday, 22 June at 10am.

If any veteran would like more information, it can be obtained from Pete Molloy by emailing molloy418[@]googlemail[.]com.
