U.3.A. stands for the University of the Third Age. It is a group of people who get together to share their love of learning with no exams and no ‘must’.
Anyone of any age who is not in full-time employment can join for an annual fee.
In the local Wear-Tees Branch the group run the following: Art Appreciation, Bowls, Computing, Current Affairs, Garden Visits, Italian, Local History, Luncheon Club, Music Appreciation, Play Reading, Photography, Poetry, Reading, Theatre Visits, Wildlife and 3 Walking Groups. They hold a General Meeting on the third Tuesday of the month in Bishop Auckland Theatre in the Town Hall from 10.00am till noon.
Group leaders are present to answer any questions and to present their current and future events.
The meeting ends with an invited speaker. The topics are varied and the next two are: Tuesday, April 20th, ‘Antarctica and Global Climate Change’ and Tuesday, May 18th, ‘Geoparks’.
