Bishop Auckland Under 9’s Rugby Team took part in a festival at Durham City recently, and were drawn against Darlington Mowden Park for their first game.
The team knew this would be a challenge as they had been up against Darlington in the past and had not been too successful.
With the full complement of 14 players who were all up for the challenge, the team went into the game with a positive attitude, and, after some excellent tackling and good supportive play, the game ended 15 points each. The next team to play was Percy Park.
The Bishop side showed the same determination and commitment. After the final whistle the score was 5 points each. After the completion of the pool, when all the other teams completed their games, the team was approached by the organisers of the festival and asked to flip a coin as they were joint top with Darlington.
They were then drawn against Morpeth in the quarter finals and played the game with commitment and team work. The final result was 15 – 0 in favour of Morpeth.
