Trauma Teddies to comfort kids

The teddies have been donated to Durham Constabulary to help comfort children in distress.

Earlier this month, Kirk Merrington Craft Makers handed over 40 Trauma Teddies to Durham Constabulary at Spennymoor Police Station.
The bears will be placed in police custody and travel around in police cars until they are needed, then they will then be handed out to children facing traumatic situations.

It is hoped that the bears will provide a distraction and much needed comfort to distressed children.

The group is also inviting anyone who would like to be involved in crafting items specifically for charity to join them.

The group meet at Kirk Merrington Community Centre every Thursday evening between 6.30pm and 8.30pm. Each session is just £2 and the fee includes materials and refreshments. Seasoned crafters and those wanting to learn new skills are all welcome.

“We are a non profit making group,” said member, Margaret Smith, “and any surplus cash is paid periodically to a chosen charity.

“If you don’t want to attend, but would like to help by creating crafted items, or by donating wool, yarns or fabrics, you can contact us via our Facebook page ‘Kirk Merrington Craft Makers’ by sending a message to our admin.”

You can also contact Margaret directly by calling 07713 429764.
