Durham Constabulary, on Sunday 29 June, reported that a body had been found in the search for missing Shildon man, Curtis Davies.
Police confirmed that specialist search teams had found the body, believed to be that of Curtis.
Curtis, who worked for Durham police, had been missing since the previous Sunday, sparking a search attended by many members of the community as well as the police.
In a statement on its social media pages, Durham Constabulary said: “We are very sorry to report that a body has been found in the search for Curtis Davies, one of our Durham Constabulary colleagues.
“The body was located by specialist search teams in the Shildon area this morning (Sunday, 29 June).
“Formal identification has yet to take place, but we believe it to be that of 32-year-old Curtis from Shildon.
“Curtis’ family have been informed and are being supported.
“Help and support is also being offered to Curtis’ friends and work family.
“We would like to thank everyone who assisted in the search for our friend and colleague, and who worked closely and considerately with officers on the ground.
“Curtis’ death is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.
“Our thoughts remain with everyone who loved Curtis.”
On learning of the discover on Sunday, Secretary of Durham Police Federation, Phil Stephenson, wrote on social media: “Very sad to hear that one of our police staff members, who has sadly been missing for a few days has been found deceased. My thoughts go to his family, work family and friends. A very well thought of young man I’m led to believe. Very sad indeed.”
Meanwhile, Rev. Carol Harris has announced that St John’s Church will be open on Saturday (5 July) from 4.30pm to 7pm, at the request of Curtis’ family, to give anyone who would like to an opportunity to light a candle in church in honour of Curtis and to reflect on his life in the church and Quiet garden.
There will be a book of condolence and a chance to make a cash donation to help with family expenses.
